The Lonely Road of Faith

Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1, NIV

Have you ever felt alone in your faith?

Have you ever had God put a call on your heart that brought you into solitary places of hope and belief?

When even those closest to you questioned God’s voice over your life.

Questioned your path.

When you felt so alone, that you even began to question it yourself?

I imagine that is how Mary felt when the angel came to her, and for a time–

Only her.

God did not bring her immediate support outside of himself. Instead, he allowed her to be alone in her knowledge and faith– questioned and speculated upon.

And yet, she remained faithful.

So why would he not have surrounded her with outside affirmation and confirmation when she was so favored?

Because great faith removes all obstacles.

All that hinders.

All that pulls and tugs and distracts.

Everything that elevates itself over God’s call on your life.

And it says to you, If God was the only one who approved of you, who agreed with you, and who walked this road with you– would you walk it anyway?

Would you still believe?

Maybe you have heard it said– Do not doubt in the dark what God has told you in the light.

Because usually, when something is given in the light, darkness will soon follow. The enemy of your soul intends it to steal your faith, and to steal what’s been given by forfeit.

But God uses it to make your faith true and steadfast– to bring it to light.

Breaking the darkness of doubt.

To believe is to bring in what God has purposed. It quite literally is the doorknob on the door of your promises.

And prayer is the key.

So what has God promised to you? Just you.

Believe.

Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! Luke 1:45, NIV
